On Sunday 10th March 2019, I had the pleasure to watch the movie Après Demain, a review of efforts and initiatives presented in the first movie Demain by Cyril Dion. As the movie producer explains it, with Demain, the idea was to push to act, with Après Demain, the objective was to change scale.
The main purpose of Cyril Dion was to demonstrate the power of good stories. Since ages, human beings have created stories to make sense of what they experienced. It’s called the construction of fictions. Our economic, banking, societal systems and even money are good stories, and they work because everyone believe in them. This means that we can change our current systems by changing the stores we tell ourselves, if we question them. According to Cyril, the ecological transition doesn’t happen or slowly because we don’t have yet a good fiction. In my opinion, with the rise of green influencers and instagramers posting pictures while recycling, creating their own make up, being minimalists etc…, we are actually starting to tell a good tale about acting sustainably. A positive aspect of influencers ….!
I must say that Cyril’s arguments remind me a lot of political ecology courses, where I was told how the way we perceive nature influences our actions and vice-versa. All in all, a change in our prisma may be beneficial if we want to achieve a sustainable development.
